Lord Cornwallis returns to Guilford Courthouse

Community Education Forum

A
number of business and governmental officials attended an education forum sponsored by the Guilford Battleground Company at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park on Tuesday October 21, 2008. The forum is part of a program to educate the community at large about the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and Tannenbaum Historic Park, and to highlight the importance of the preservation of these two Greensboro landmarks. Guilford Battleground Company hosts membership meeting

T
he Guilford Battleground Company hosted historian and author, Dr. Larry Aaron, at its May 15 meeting to educate and attract new members. Picture, left to right, Etta and Jack Reid and General Nathanael Greene and wife, Caty Greene (D'oyle and Janet Moore). Also in attendance were GBC Board members, Patriots, and future Patriots. Dr. Aaron's new book, The Race to the Dan depicts the history of events in the Southern campaign of the American Revolution.

American Battlefield Protection Program Awards Grant

T
he Guilford Battleground Company has received a $21,000 grant from the American Battlefield Protection Pro¬ gram to educate the community at large about the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and Tannenbaum Historic Park. Through a television campaign, a brochure, and a community education forum, the GBC will highlight the im¬portance of the preservation of these two Greensboro landmarks.

The Traditional Independence Day

T
he 232nd anniversary of Independence Day was celebrated by the playing of colonial military music by the Guilford Court House Fife and Drum Corps, remarks about the cause for our celebrating the day, and the laying of wreaths honoring North Carolina’s signers, two of whom are buried in the park, of the Declaration of Independence at the Founders Monument in Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.

A
fter remarks by Supt. Charles Cranfield wreaths were laid by –Ken Patterson, President, Nathanael Greene Chapter SAR, Cindy Findley, Regent, Rachel Caldwell Chapter DAR; and Etta Reid , Regent, Guilford Battle Chapter DAR. The ceremony concluded with a military salute fired by the Guilford Militia.
