Recapturing Lost Ground
A
strategic piece of the original battlefield of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse has been acquired by the Guilford Battleground Company. With the financial and knowledgeable assistance of the Weaver Foundation and the Piedmont Land Conservancy, the GBC purchased the 4.5 acre tract from the Mary Woods' estate. This is the eleventh tract in which the GBC has assisted in the purchase. The first nine properties bought by the GBC have now been purchased by the National Park Service and are a part of the park. There are twenty remaining parcels which we anticipate acquiring. (See Land Purchase page)
A

American troops, Butler's Brigade of North Carolina militia, were positioned along this sector of the first line. On their flank Lt. Col. Henry Lee's Legion and Col. William Campbell's Riflemen were deployed. The British units which attacked in this area were Regiment von Bose, 71st Regiment of Foot, and 1st Battalion of the Guards.
