D
o you love excitement, energy, and entertainment? If you do, you should attend the reenactments of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Or even become a member of a reenactment group which participates in the event. Each year on the weekend nearest the anniversary of the battle, March 15, 1781, the reenactment attracts hundreds of participants and thousands of onlookers to see a live recreation of the original battle. From the opening cannon fusillades to the last solitary musket shot, there is a whirl of intense activity as the American and British troops fire, advance, attach bayonets, charge, retreat, reload and fire again amid the swirling smoke and acrid odor of gunpowder.

L
ike any great story, even if you know the ending, it is still captivating to see the action that brings you to the climax. But this event recreates a story of real life and death. Not only of the men who fought and died on this hallowed ground, but also of the end of an old way of life and the beginning of a new nation.

T
he GBC is appreciative of all reenactors who portray their units’ action in the battle. They provide a great service to the community by reminding us of the sacrifices that were made by our forefathers over two hundred years ago, and we trust that the public will show their appreciation by their attendance.

W
hile you are at the park, we hope you will take time to walk over some of the original battlefield and try to imagine what it must have been like during the many battles that were fought during the Revolutionary War. See the exhibits, film and battle map presentations in the Military Park Visitors' Center. Also, visit the Colonial Heritage Center and park area located where the Joseph Hoskins farmhouse stood at the time of the battle. It was here that Lord Cornwallis organized the lines of his British troops and dispatched them into the fray.

T
he only cost for all of this adventure is just a little of your time. So spend it wisely and be at the next reenactment.

R
eenactors also have to cook, eat, sleep, drill and prepare for battle. Come visit with them during all phases of their reenactment weekend at Guilford Courthouse.
