Welcome To The GBC
W
elcome to the Guilford Battleground Company. It's an honor and an opportunity to work for this not-for-profit group, dedicated to preserving history and telling the storyof the sacrifices made for America's freedom.
T
he Battle of Guilford Courthouse had a major impact on both Greensboro and the United States of America. The freedoms we enjoy today began at this historic battle on March 15, 1781. Although General Nathanael Greene and his colonial troops were defeated that day, Lord Cornwallis and his men had won a hollow victory, with many officers killed. A few months later, the Americans won at Yorktown.
N
ow the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park welcomes more than 500,000 visitors each year to this battlefield, so decisive in the Revolutionary War.
T
oday, more than 200 years after the battle, we continue to honor the memory of all those who died for an ideal of freedom, and seek to preserve not only our battlefield, but the heritage and courage of those who fought here.
