Welcome To The GBC
T
hank you for taking a few moments of your time to read my first note to you. I am very excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve as your executive director and further the already great work that Guilford Battleground Company has begun.

y way of introduction, I have a long career in business, education, and in both the for-profit and non-profit worlds. I think that will be a great help in bringing both worlds together to support our efforts. On a personal level, I have a great interest in how the United States was created and has evolved. I grew up in the shadow of Ben Franklin and Independence Hall. I have visited many of the major landmarks in the U.S. and around the world. I have been to most major battlegrounds and old forts along the East Coast of the US and have been present many Christmas mornings to watch the reenactment of George Washington and his troops crossing the Delaware River December 25, 1776, to launch a surprise attack on the Hessians in Trenton.
I
am also very interested in history and have been a genealogist for almost 20 years. All of these various strands seem to have come together now in this important task of preserving our country's history and introducing Guilford Battleground to more people from around the world. I am in awe of the importance of this place and the part it played in creating our great nation. It is truly that place where we lost the battle but won the war. I know that's a saying that's been around for a very long time but to me it seems very appropriate!
I
will do all I can to continue to raise our commitment to historic preservation and community development at all levels as we work together to develop an internationally-known sacred space here in Greensboro. I invite you to join me. Please feel free to tell me your vision for our organization in the future. Obviously, we can't do everything everyone wants, but the more ideas the better. We need your ideas and we need your support - please renew your membership, buy and show off a Guilford Battleground license plate on your cars, come to our events, and visit all the various places in our Park where history was made.
T
his year is especially exciting - we are celebrating the 235th anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, We have two very special projects to start off this year as well. In March, we will celebrate the grand opening of a very special Revolutionary War Library in the former park superintendent's house which has been completely renovated. Later on in the spring, the GBC is supporting an archaeological dig in search of the original location of the Guilford Courthouse. We'll also continue the lecture series on the days before the re-enactment. We hope you'll join us to both hear the history and watch it in much the way it played out those 235 years ago.
I
t is my honor and a privilege to support the efforts of the Guilford Battleground Company. I am looking forward to meeting all of you Guilford Battleground Patriots in the coming months. More news to come!
